Egobossler

The Villain: Galactor Leader #3

Count Erun Egobossler

After Gel Sadra and Sosai X are eliminated, Erun Egobossler moves in to take over the reigns of the leaderless Galactor organization. He is the extremely ambitious ruler of most of Europe, and unlike Katse and Gel Sadra, he had a life before the alien overlord showed up, which makes him freer to rebel against Sosai Z.

A different kind of leader than the previous two, Egobossler is cold, suave, and arrogant. He is not, as Alara Rogers has noted, the same breed of villain as his tormented predecessors.

He does have some irritating affectations, most notably red wine and an old phonograph, both of which show up often enough that I started to think that he could be defeated with some Metallica and a 12-step program.

Egobossler employs conventional weaponry, and comes complete with his own soldiers. Possibly as a result of his lack of science, possibly because Z seems to feel that size is of primary importance in this series, all of Egobossler's mecha seem to be massive and rather clumsy. (Make all the Freudian comments you'd like.)

There is no question that Egobossler is a man, and a handsome one, but his most striking characteristic may be his blue skin, a voluntary dye job intended to make him look as different as possible from his despised father and half-brother.

Ignorant that he was the illegitimate son of the previous Cassary Egobossler, Erun became Cassary's bodyguard, only to be blamed and beaten when Cassary broke his arm. His mother, a maidservant, attempted to intercede and was killed for her efforts. Before she died, she told Erun that Cassary was his father.

Erun dyed his skin blue and bleached his hair white. He murdered his father, imprisoned his half-brother Kaseru, the legitimate heir, and took his place as Cassary. The scar down his left cheek is the result of a knife wound inflicted by Kaseru, whom Egobossler keeps locked away in the dungeon. Visits bring back angry memories.

There's never any question of what lies behind Egobossler's mask; by the end of the first episode we know what he looks like.

Egobossler is flanked by a pair of officers: Kempler and Mechandol. Kempler looks like he would've made a good Nazi, and Mechandol looks like an oversized dwarf. Kempler eventually rebels against Egobossler, as he is power hungry in his own right; Mechandol is loyal to the end.
